Dangerbird Records signs Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora?

The Silver Lake label Dangerbird Records is known for adventurous, crowd-pleasing indie artists such as Silversun Pickups and Fitz amp; the Tantrums. But according to a curious item that ran in the LA Weekly on Wednesday, the label might soon be working with a titan of 80s arena rock — Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.

The Weekly interviewed Sambora about his latest charity work and a forthcoming solo album, and the guitarist casually mentioned that hes been keeping tabs on indie rock culture and working with Dangerbird for an album that doesnt sound like Bon Jovi at all and that features lots of jamming.

Dangerbird released the debut from from Liam Gallaghers Beady Eye project,...

Avenged Sevenfold live in Manila A glorious ‘Nightmare’ come true

Lights dimmed, fans screamed and the haunting musical box intro of “Nightmare” played out like a lullaby out of the speakers. Synyster Gates took his usual opening position at the center ledge, and on his cue, the show started. People were then transported into a world where rock gods play among men and rock music was the universal language. It was surreal.

“Nightmare” was followed by one of my personal favorites, “Critical Acclaim.” It’s a powerful song, and it raised the energy of the crowd even higher. By the time the third song, “Welcome to the Family,” was done, I felt like I’d been on a 5-km run.

The band alternately...

Johnny Depp Jams With Alice Cooper, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry at ‘Dark Shadows …

PHOTOS: Dark Shadows Red Carpet Premiere

1970s rock legend Alice Cooper, who is featured prominently in the film, was on hand for the celebration, taking the stage with his band for a high-energy performance in a tented parking lot behind the El Capitan Theater. Joining Cooper for the jam session was none other than Depp himself, who has been popping up regularly on the music scene as of late, ever since he teamed with Marilyn Manson to cover Carly Simons Youre So Vain earlier this year.

But the real surprise came later in the set, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, when fellow rock gods Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith joined the group for rousing renditions of Schools...

Rock on reaching the height of fitness

You might think that being suspended in the air by a rope attached to a man 30 feet below would be scary. Especially when that same man directs you to let go of the rock-like ridge you have been gripping for the past 30 seconds and bounce off 30 feet of rock wall till you get to the bottom. However, even with my fear of heights, I pushed against the wall with my sneakered feet until I landed on a cushioned surface–where, with a big grin on my face, I high-fived a very proud instructor. It was my first attempt at climbing a rock wall, and it was on the beginner wall–but the sense of accomplishment was still potent. The staff at Central Athletic Club in Montrose, Chaguanas, boast...

The wall has different...

Tenacious D Rave About Dave Grohl and Their Mindblowing Dance Moves

The comedy-rock duo discuss the influences that set Rize of the Fenix on fire

The D are back. Six years after their last album, comedy-rock gods Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D have returned with Rize of the Fenix, out May 15. As fans have come to expect, the album is full of meaty acoustic guitar riffs, Dave Grohls whiplash drumming, Blacks wailing vocals, and dick jokes. So many dick jokes.

In advance of the albums release, we spoke with the D, who kick off a spring/summer tour May 23 in Santa Barbara, California, about what influenced them while they birthed Fenix.

What The F**k Is Coachella Trying To Tease?!

After a year that featured reunited modern rock gods and hologram rappers, one would think the people at Coachella could learn to take a vacation, but apparently that is not the case.

Earlier this afternoon, Coachella posted a new image on its website teasing an announcement at 10AM PDT on Monday morning. Shortly after going live, the image was sent out on the festivals social networks with the message psst pass it on. You can view the image below:

So the question remainswhat is this all about? The festival JUST ended, so it is very unlikely theyre announcing pre-sales for 2013 already, but what else could it be? Another festival?

Guess well find out together on Monday....

Pool, rock climbing wall in Docklands 10-year plan

THE waterfront at Docklands could be the site of a new public swimming pool, with a skate park and rock climbing wall also on a long wish-list of facilities for the area to be released by Melbourne City Council today.

A 10-year plan for the public spaces in Docklands has found that while its closeness to the water is a fundamental attraction, there are few opportunities to directly engage with the water, and this is made worse by exposure to the elements.

Despite a number of parks, the perception among residents is of a lack of open space, and they do not regard the sea-side promenades as open space but as walkways with a visitor focus that do not cater to their needs.
